My motivation for self-growth has always been about attracting a partner. The awareness has caused me to rethink why I make every single decision in my life. I have been processing this revelation for months now. I have always prioritized personal growth for the wrong reasons. The most important part of the discussion focused on how we can work to recognize and break out of these negative cycles. The conversation was fantastic and turned into a theme for us for a couple of months following it. I can see many examples of these cycles in my life. At times I feel like I have conquered some corrupted part of myself only to see those bad habits resurface at a later time. Some of my own personal struggles I have carried for decades.
And it also happens in the larger life decisions of who we build relationships with, what boundaries we are willing to put in place for ourselves, decisions about consumption, materialism, employment, and finances to name a few. We all agreed that we make the same mistakes over and over again. On this particular evening we were discussing how many of the struggles in our lives seem to be cyclical. This allows us to dig deep into unexpected subjects. We have an open ended format in these gatherings where we allow our conversations to organically go in the direction the moment requires.
